Planning Coordinator

Classification / Work Schedule: 

Non-Exempt, Full-Time, Schedule dependent on work 

Salary Grade/Level/Range: 

$47,500 - $55,000

Senior Director of Planning and Growth 


 

Job Summary/Objective: 

The Planning Coordinator supports key priorities of the department in alignment with the organization’s strategic plan. Reporting to the Senior Director of Planning and Growth, this role is responsible for coordinating and managing various projects including planning and transportation studies, project and budgeting support and stakeholder and community outreach. The position also leads research and data collection efforts related to key metrics and trends within the Special Services District and serves as the organizational administrator for multiple software platforms. 

The successful candidate will contribute to the development, refinement, and implementation of transportation demand management initiatives, mobility programs, and urban planning strategies that enhance the experience, accessibility, and functionality of Tampa’s Downtown. 

Candidates must possess strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects at once, meet deadlines, and work as a part of a collaborative team 


Essential Job Duties:  

  • Support key departmental priorities in alignment with the organization’s strategic plan. 

  • Support the development and execution of planning projects, including district plans, corridor studies, streetscape improvements, placemaking initiatives, and mobility enhancements.  

  • Engage with public and private sectors and facilitate stakeholder engagement including outreach to property owners, businesses, community groups, and civic partners. 

  • Create and manage databases. Collect, analyze, and maintain data on economic indicators, downtown utilization trends, pedestrian counts, business mix, vacancies, land use, and mobility patterns 

  • Create presentations, graphics, and reports to depict projects and programs. Prepare maps, charts, and briefing documents to support decision making.  

  • Represent the Partnership at public meetings, workshops, surveys, and other engagement activities. 

  • Represent the Partnership on various government and non-governmental committees 

  • Further the vision outlined in various downtown planning studies and maintain planning files, GIS/data resources, and internal tracking systems. 


Required Education and Experience and Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, public administration, economics, or related field. 

  • Experience in project management, including planning, budgeting, timelines, and reporting. 

  • Experience in urban planning, economic development, project coordination, community outreach, or related fields.

  •  

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Working knowledge of local planning laws and procedures 

  • Ability to work with ESRI, GIS (ArcGIS or QGIS), and graphic software (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign) or data visualization tools 

  • Knowledge of Business Improvement Districts  

  • Understands Downtown Tampa community 


Skills and Attributes: 

  • Ability to express ideas clearly and persuasively, both orally and in writing, to various audiences. 

  • Ability to translate data into compelling narratives 

  • Experience working with and managing consultants 

  • Able to work independently and as a team 

  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously, effectively, and meet deadlines 

  • Ability to shift between long-range planning and day-to-day tasks 

  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office programs
